Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

The seven wonders of the ancient world was a list compiled by Greeks comprising the architectural marvels known in their world. Hence you can find only the monuments and structures from the Mediterranean and Middle East regions in the list of the ancient seven wonders. Of the several versions available, the most prominent ones were the list by the Greek writer Antipater of Sidon and an engineer named Philo of Byzantium. 

Here is the list


  • Great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt - Massive tomb of Egyptian pharaoh, KhufuThis pyramid is the only ancient wonder still standing intact.
  • Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, Turkey - A tomb for King Mausolus built by his wife, Queen Artemisia. This wonder is believed to be destroyed by an earthquake.
  • Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Greece - It was a statue depicting Zeus, the king of the Greek gods. This statue is believed to be destroyed by fire.
  • Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Iraq – Several Greek writers have documented the hanging gardens in their work, but no archaeological evidence of the garden’s remains has been known to prove it’s existence.
  • Lighthouse of Alexandria, Egypt – First known lighthouse of the World. It was built in a way that at the top a mirror reflected sunlight during the day, and a fire was lit at night. It is believed to be destroyed by earthquakes.
  • Colossus of Rhodes, Greece – It was a statue for the Greek Sun God, Helios. The statue was destroyed by an earthquake.
  • Temple of Artemis at Ephesus,Turkey - This temple was built in honor of the Greek Goddess Artemis - the Goddess of wilderness, the hunt, the wild animals and fertility. It was destroyed by setting fire by a man named Herostratus.
